1. S.R. Butler High School Marker

Inscription. S.R. Butler High School, originally established in 1951 at Clinton Avenue, was moved to this location in the fall of 1967, with the first class graduating in 1968. Dr. J. Homer Crim served as principal from 1951 until 1971. By the 1970s, enrollment exceeded 3,000 students. The school upheld impressive academic and athletic standards. Butler graduates became well-known in sports, business, medicine, and the arts. S.R. Butler High School closed its doors in 2015 after 64 years of educating thousands of Huntsville students.
This marker is dedicated to the administrators, teachers, support staff, and students who once walked the halls of S R. Butler High School.
