1. De Waag / The Weighing House Marker
The city was granted the right to weigh houses in 1667 and decided to build a new weigh house designed by Pieter Post. He designed a square building in the Dutch Classical style. Both side walls were provided with canopies. The relief was created by Bartholomeus Eggers of Amsterdam. The depictions clearly indicate the building's function as a cheese weighing facility. In 2000, the large relief was found to be in such poor condition that it was no longer safe to maintain it outdoors. Eggers' original was installed indoors, and sculptor Ton Mooij carved the new one.
