1. The Michigan Meridian Marker
The line in the center of this plaque marks its location. This Michigan Meridian runs north from the initial point located near Leslie, between Jackson and Lansing. It is the dividing line between east and west ranges in the State of Michigan.
This line was surveyed in Chippewa County in 1840 by William A Burt. The northern end of the Michigan Meridian is identified by a monument located on Portage Avenue, 3400 feet north of this plaque.
