English:
The church of St. John the Baptist was first built in 1144 as a wooden church, with St. James the Elder as its patron. In 1319, a Gothic stone building was erected and dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Between 1685 and 1688, the church was extended according to designs by Georg Dientzenhofer. From 1700 to 1785, it was fitted with Baroque furnishings by the sculptor Johann Michael Doser and the painter Johann Michael Wild. In 1944, Karl Dirmaier created the painting on the choir ceiling. Since 1993, the church has housed the only bronze altar in Germany.
