Inscription. The Commissioners of Perryville sold lots 48 of the original town plat to Manning on April 23, 1830 for $67.12. Tax records show Joseph Shoults had a building on part of Lot 48, valued at $1,200. It was a two-story brick building with a wooden front ell on the northeast corner of Ste Marie and Main Streets. The building served as a saloon for almost 130 years, except for the period during the Prohibition 1920-1932. The ground floor consisted of two large rooms, one in the brick building, and the other in the ell portion of the building. The west room of the building had a large fireplace with appliances for cooking. The east room contained a saloon. Wiliam E. Blechle purchased the building and started the American Brewing Company (ABC) in 1918. Serving ABC Beer, the building became known as the Blechle Building. Later, A. Kiesler purchased the ell portion of the building and opened a tin shop downstairs, with living quarters above. When Mr. Blechle passed away, the building was sold to Vincent L Prevallet, a jeweler. Mr. Prevallet opened a jewelry store in his recently purchased building. His son, Elmer Prevallet
