1. E. George Rogers 1891-1992 Marker
Born December 28, 1891, in Winchester, England, Ernest George Rogers came to the United States in 1913 at age twenty two. In his early years in the U.S., he became head of the accounting department of Remington Arms Companythe major supplier of arms to the Allied Powers during World War I. From 1929 to 1951 his consulting and CPA firm saved and streamlined many businesses by increasing efficiency and profitability. His business took him to Mobile, Alabama, then New Orleans and later Alexandria, Louisiana, where he bought and operated a prosperous hotel and night club. In his early fifties he fell madly in love with the beautiful Anna Perez, and they married in 1946. Their daughter Ann was born in 1948 and Jane in 1949. The Rogers family made an auspicious trip to Naples in 1952 and bought their home at 454 Sixth Street South in Naples in 1954. Rogers then retired and devoted his full time to family, art (a lifelong passion), and community.
George Rogers was a prolific painter, working every day in this art studio in the back yard of the Rogers home on Sixth Street. His art was a passionate, tangible expression of

George Rogers took citizenship seriously and gave to the community a gift money cannot buyhe gave of himself. Gatherings and philosophical discussions held in this building resulted in the co-founding (with Elsie Upham) of the Naples Art Association and the creation of the First National Bank of Naples, Collier County Mental Health Association, and the Collier County Historical Society. Rogers actively supported equality and education. He volunteered to teach art in the schools and was the Chairman of the School Board when county schools were desegregated in 1965.
E. George Rogers was respected for his love of humanity, family, art, good humor, and community. He was recognized by the Naples Daily News as one of the 100 Most Influential Southwest Floridians of the Twentieth Century. He died in 1992 at 101.
