This marker was one of 14 that the Village of Maywood erected in 2013 to accompany "Welcome to Maywood" signs at prominent entry points into the village, which is about 10 miles west of downtown Chicago. The marker and most of the other 13 erected at entry points into Maywood appear to have been removed at some point in late July 2025.

The "Recognizing the Architects Marker" is beneath the town seal.
Regarding Recognizing the Architects. Among the architects listed here, Walter Burley Griffin (most famous as the designer of Canberra, the capital of Australia) was born in Maywood and grew up in nearby Oak Park. Most of these architects were heavily influenced by the Prairie School, with many famous works not just in Maywood but also in Chicago and nearby suburbs such as Oak Park, River Forest and Berwyn.
Some of these architects' prominent works can be found in Maywood not far from this location. The Richard Cleuver House, designed by John Van Bergen, is about a half-mile south on 1st Avenue, near where Chicago Avenue crosses the Des Plaines River.
