Inscription. On July 9, 1891, Archibald Cashion sold part of the original town Lot 42 to Thomas Hooss for $500. Hooss was a prominent and well-respected citizen of Perryville. In 1895, Hooss managed a successful business in a wood frame building on the south side of the square, the Thomas Hooss Agricultural Implement Company, where he sold farm equipment. In 1901, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Buehler rented the building from Mr. Hooss. They continued their well-known business, as Buehler's Meat Market. In addition to meats, they sold fresh fish every Friday, as well as Krinard's baked goods. Hooss died in 1912, leaving the property to his daughter Myrta Hooss Herbst

In February of 1925, Joseph Buehler and his son Sanford, known as Sam, purchased the building from Myrta Herbst for $2,500. Shortly after the sale, a new stucco front was added to the building, along with two large plate windows. A ten-foot Hussman freezer display was installed, which was considered the most up-to-date equipment available at the time. All the company's meats were displayed on enamelware trays in a glass compartment, with an even control temperature

cooling system. Joseph Buehler eventually retired, leaving the business to his son, Sam. Sam and his eldest son, Gerald "Jerry", ran the meat market until Sam's death in 1959. Jerry took over the business, remodeling the interior of the building to make it into a more modern grocery store. Here, Jerry ran the family business until Jack Loiseau and Loy Nelson invited him to work at the L & N Supermarket. After 60 years in the business, Buehler's Meat Market closed in May, 1961. Some other tenants in the building have included Taylor's Fabric Shop, C.M. Brown Associates, which occupies the building today. In 2002, Sam Buehler's granddaughter, Sue Modde Hotop and her husband Danny, purchased the building from Charles M. Brown, and are the current owners.
