Arsan Callier - Toohey Law Firm Building. . This property was owned for many years by Hyman Block, who raised his family here. It was a log house, whose age was unkown, but it was considered one of the oldest and last remaining log houses in the city. In 1870, Block deeded the property to Arsan Callier. The property remained in the possession of Mr. Callier for almost 80 years until 1949, when it was sold to Harry and Gertrude Fritz. The footprint of this building was expanded when the My-Lee Hat Shop building next door was acquired. For a number of years, the Statler Beauty Shop was located here, and Walter Kutz operated a tavern and card room in the rear of the building. Statler and Kutz were the last tenants of the original building when it was purchased in 1964 by Francis Toohey, a well established attorney who served from 1955-1966 as the county's prosecuting attorney. In 1966, Toohey razed the old building, revealing roof timbers that were twenty-four feet long, hand hewn oak beams. They appeared to be in an excellent state of preservation.
