Teaching and Preaching
Young Garfield worked as a school teacher in the Ledge School District in Solon and later in the Warrensville Schools. Although he had to deal with many disciplinary problems, he excelled as a teacher and went on to teach at Hiram Eclectic Institute where he later became principal at the age of 26. He also preached, as a minister of the Church of Christ, wherever invited in Solon, Chagrin Falls, and other places.
