1. The Clay Building Marker

Inscription.
Clement Comer Clay was a young lawyer when he traveled to Huntsville in 1811. He applied himself as a civic leader, and in 1819 led the committee that drafted the state's first constitution. This building was used for Clay's law practice, Madison County's first post office, and housed the Surveyor General.
