Inscription. As rookie, led Tars to 1938 pennant. Hit .338 with 21 HR’s to gain all-star recognition.

Consistent.300 hitter on championship clubs at Kansas City and Newark before becoming regular rightfielder on 1943 Yankee World Series winner. Led 1949 Portsmouth Cubs with.336 and managed Newport News in 1950.

Elected to William & Mary Hall of Fame, O.D.U. Baseball Coach since 1949, named 1965 N.C.A.A. College Division Coach of Year after 17th straight winning season. Also had 16 winning O.D.U. Basketball teams in 17 years, has made tremendous contribution to Tidewater youth in both education and sports.

Regarding Arthur B. (Bud) Metheny. The Tidewater Baseball Shrine recognizes players and executives who have significantly contributed to the game of baseball in the Tidewater area of Virginia. The shrine is located at Harbor Park, which is home to the Norfolk Tides, a AAA minor league baseball team affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles. The Norfolk Tides annually induct new members into the shrine.
