Inscription. This cottage was built in 1936. It is a Sears & Roebuck kit house called The Maplewood. It was advertised as a "Six room and Bath" house.

The house could be purchased as a pre-cut kit to be assembled on your lot or the homeowner could buy the plans and have the lumber cut by a local lumber yard. The house as a pre-cut kit cost approximately $2,500 (depending upon the options chosen) and included all the wiring, cabinets, interior wood trim as well as the chimney and exterior trim and shutters.

Sears would also finance the house if you purchased the pre-cut kit. This model house could be financed for between $35 and $45 per month in the early 1930's!

Note that the original homeowners changed the front gable projection so that it sweeps down to the right.

The cottage was remodeled in 2011 and the chimney was removed so the 2nd floor dormers could be added. The screen porch, sun room and a bedroom were also added in 2011.
