Nils Collett Vogt left home at the age of 20. He is considered the innovator of Norwegian poetry and had his breakthrough in 1894 with the collection of poems Fra vaar til hψst ("From Spring to Autumn").(Submitted on July 28, 2025.)
He stood in strong opposition to his conservative childhood environment and joined forces with radical artists who had the Grand Cafι as their regular venue. His father called the stairs to the cafι "The Staircase of Perdition". Vogt both loved and hated his hometown. It is the landscape and the varying moods and seasons that he has particularly depicted.
