Inscription. Captain Andrew S. Marshall, 81 years of age, gallant Confederate Soldier and prominent leading Greenville citizen, was instantly killed on the evening of October 19, 1925 at the Henry Street Crossing of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad by the southbound Katy Flyer. He had dashed across the tracks to warn a small automobile occupied by a woman and small children who were attempting to cross the tracks in front of the fast approaching train. Captain Marshall succeeded in warning the occupants of the car but failed to get clear of the tracks and the oncoming train and was, unfortunately, hit and killed. A tragic end for such a brave man.
