Inscription.
Hunt County Courthouse Dedication. . The Hunt County Courthouse was built in 1929. The opening celebration on April 11, 1929 included the unveiling of the "living statuary' shown in this picture. Five Hunt County citizens, covered with flour to resemble stone statues, posed on the 3rd floor ledge above the north steps. They depicted (L to R) a Cowboy, a Texas Ranger, Justice, a Pioneer Woman, and a Pioneer Farmer. The living statuary was recreated to commemorate the county's 150th anniversary. For the courthouse rededication on April 13, 1996, modern stage makeup replaced the flour as five people again balanced on the courthouse ledge. The Pioneer Woman was portrayed by the granddaughter of the original "statue". The Hunt County Courthouse, the seventh building to serve as the seat of county government, is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Modernization to increase energy efficiency and to align work areas with current functions has been accomplished without destroying the historic fabric of the building. We invite you to tour the inside of the Hunt County Courthouse during regular office hours. A diorama on the ground floor depicts the town square in 1850.
