1. Sam Allen Marker
Inscription. Sam Allen was born in Norfolk, starring in baseball and football at Booker T. Washington High School. Allen played in the Negro Leagues for the Kansas City Monarchs, Raleigh Tigers and Memphis Red Sox during the 1950’s before being drafted in to the U.S. Army in 1960. Instrumental in commemorating and remembering the accomplishments of Negro League players, he is a member of the Hampton Roads African-American sports Hall of Fame.

The shrine is located at Harbor Park, which is home to the Norfolk Tides, a AAA minor league baseball team affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles.The Norfolk Tides annually induct new members into the shrine.
