1. Eddie R. (The Brat) Stanky Marker

Inscription. Born and raised in Philadelphia. Spurned many college scholarships to sign with boyhood favorite Connie Mack’s Athletics in 1935.

Fierce rivalry with Norfolk’s Jerry Priddy spiced outstanding 1937-38 Portsmouth seasons.

Hit over .300 in 6 of 8 minor league seasons, topped by 1942 American Association MVP Award at Milwaukee, hitting .342 with 56 Doubles.

Cubs first stop in 11 year major career. Set N.L. record with 148 walks in 1945. Sparked clubs World Series in Brooklyn (1947), Boston (1948) and achieved greatest thrill in 1951 Giants storybook success.

Player-Manager of Cardinals 1952-55, named Sporting News Manager of the Year in first season. Also managed White Sox (1966-68) and Texas Rangers for 1 day in 1777.

Took coaching reins at University of South Alabama in 1969 and led Jaguars to national prominence including top ranking in 1975. Has developed numerous pro players and his team’s new stadium was named in his honor in 1980.
