Bethlehem in Grafton County, New Hampshire — The American Northeast (New England)
Bethlehem Hebrew Congregation
This synagogue was originally the Church of the Nativity, built in 1877, on land donated by Rhode Island Governor Henry Howard. Jewish families began vacationing in Bethlehem in 1916, mostly from New York, New Jersey, and Boston. They first worshipped in a store on Main Street beginning in 1920. The congregation purchased and began to use this building as a synagogue in 1928. The synagogue building, recently restored and repaired, is a regional center for Jewish social, cultural, and religious activities. The building is open in the summer and fall for religious services and community programs.
The Bethlehem Hebrew Congregation has been building community in the White Mountains for over 100 years.
This plaque is erected to honor the memory of Sidney Regen, 1936-2021, Synagogue Member and BHC Board Officer
