After return to Minors and stint with Yankees (1925-26) achieved greatest success with Washington. Led 1927 A.L. In games (58) and saves (13), and as 1928 starter, led league in ERA (2.51).
Lean, wiry lefthander completed 10 year Major career with White Sox and Browns. After 77 wins in 5 years at Milwaukee, and time at Little Rock and Winston Salem, became stopper for Norfolk Tars (1941-45), and resided here thereafter.
Led 1943 Piedmont League with 14-2 mark and 0.74 ERA at age 43. Ended amazing career as Player-Manager in Blue Ridge League at age 49.
