1. Berlin Mills Railway Marker
The Berlin Mills Railway (BMR) was an integral piece of the Brown Company history in Berlin. Its presence in the community starts in the 1870s when a brace of oxen managed moving railcars around the mill yards in Berlin. By the 1950s, the BMR had advanced to diesel engines and grown to moving nearly 100,000 cars a year loaded with pulpwood and coal as well as paper towels and other finished products from the local mills and businesses. The BMR oversaw 14 miles of track including those that were located here along the Androscoggin River.
