The marker at Gabels gate 39 was unveiled on June 7, 1994, by Milorg's leader during World War II, Jens Chr. Hauge. The resistance movement is a collective term for Milorg and the Home Front.(Submitted on August 5, 2025.)
Milorg had several meeting places around Oslo, but Elsa Endresen's apartment on the 3rd floor of Gabels gate 39 was a main base. The apartment was well suited for the purpose the entrance was discreetly located inside the courtyard, and there were several escape routes.
The Milorg Council took over the apartment as a meeting place in the autumn of 1942. The Council was a small group that drew up the guidelines for Milorg's activities. Later, Milorg's central leadership was organized, and in 1944 the leadership of the Home Front, which was a kind of government branch in occupied Norway in the last years of the war. Paal Berg was the leader of the Home Front.
