Inscription. Organized in 1900 with James Bennett as president, the Farmers National Bank completed its building in 1904 at a cost of $50,000. The sum had been raised by selling shares at $100 each. In the absence of motorized construction machinery, ten-hour workdays included manual mixing of mortar and hoisting of construction materials.

The bank originally occupied only the right bay of the first floor; the G.M. Grant Co. general store was located in the other bays.

On the second floor, apartments and office spaces were arranged around a skylighted central atrium, opening to a third floor balcony. The third floor space was arranged for use by the local Masonic lodge. During the 1990s the bank expanded to use the entire building as headquarters for its numerous branches. A new processing center was added in 1998 at a site near the post office.
