1. Major David Leitch Marker

Inscription. David Leitch was born in Glasgow, Scotland, immigrated to America at an early age, and served in the Colonial militia during the Revolutionary War where he attained the rank of major. After the war he purchased 33,000 acres in the Campbell County area in what is today known as Wilder, Highland Heights, Cold Spring, Grant’s Lick and southern Kenton County. He founded Leitch’s Station on the Licking River near Newport and was a delegate to Kentucky’s First Constitutional Convention. When he died, his wife Keturah Moss Leitch inherited all the land in his estate, and he was buried in the yard of their home. Keturah had him reburied in Evergreen in 1853, and when she died, she was buried beside him. Her second husband, James Taylor, Jr., is buried up the hill in Section 17 (Stop 4).
