1. Airmen of World War I Marker
Inscription. Dedicated to the more than 78,000 airmen who served in the U.S. Army Air Service of the American Expeditionary Force and those who served with other air services during World War I. Their patriotism and honorable service established the foundation and traditions for today's United States Air Force.

U.S. Air Service Combat Units
The following air service units flew combat missions during World War I. In addition, numerous support units such as supply, maintenance, medical, ground transportation, and airfield management provided critical support services to the operational units. This team effort enabled the air service to gain air superiority, conduct observation activities and execute bombing operations.
