North Loop in Minneapolis in Hennepin County, Minnesota — The American Midwest (Upper Plains)
Gothic Storage Facility
Built: 1889 (Additions 1902-1906)
| | Historic North Loop | |
The same architect who designed Minnesota's state capitol and the US Supreme Court building, Cass Gilbert, designed the Gothic Revival facade of this building.
Before his 1904 renovation, multiple produce warehouses stood on this block. Gilbert's new design combined them into one cohesive facility. The wrought iron bars offered security for the building's next purpose: personal storage.
In 1992, Theatre de la Jeune Lune hollowed out the interior to create a spacious performance hall. In 2012, it became the elegant event center known as Aria.
Erected by North Loop Neighborhood Association.
