Inscription. The Warner family owned much of the land that would become The Strip, and were among the early residents who rented portions of their home to boarders.

Reuben and Maria Baldwin Warner purchased 300 acres of the second tract of the Battel Tract, and moved here in 1828. They lived in a log cabin for many years. Their son, Nelson, and his wife, Laura, stayed on the farm and in 1887 opened their four-room house to summer boarders. A son, Charlie, and his wife, Myrtle, built a large home from lumber harvested on the Warner's tract. This home also served the tourist trade and became known as "The Colonial," which still stands.

The Warners were very active in the community. Charlie became the village's first mayor in 1928; his son Howard Tye, also served as mayor and was the county's first County Court judge. The Warners were active in many other community ventures, as well.
