1. Queensland Kauri Marker
Inscription.
This Australian tree is a true conifer, even though its broad leaves do not resemble those of more familiar conifers such as pines. Look high up for its large cones.

The tree was planted in 1890 near the home of the J. De Barth Shorb family, the former owners of the Huntington property. It was moved to its present location in 1908 to make way for construction of the Huntington mansion.

On Sept. 24, 2021, the tree was measured at 112 feet tall with a 27-foot-6-inch average crown spread and 235-inch trunk circumference, earning it a designation as a California Big Tree. (The nearby flagpole is 132 feet tall.)
