Santo Spirito in Firenze in Cittΰ Metropolitana di Firenze, Tuscany, Italy — Southern and Western Europe (Mediterranean)
Chiesa di San Jacopo Sopr'Arno
The church, dating perhaps from the 10th-11th century, gives its name to the Borgo in which it stands. It is said that Brunelleschi, in about 1418, made for the now-destroyed Ridolfi Chapal a dome which was a preparatory study for that of the Cathedral. In 1580 the Scopetini Canons moved the romanesque portico from their old building at San Donato de Scoprio to San Jacopo. The 18th-century interior is due to the Padri delle Missioni (known as Barbetti on account of their goatee beards), who established themselves in the adjoining convent. There are paintings by Pier Dandini, Niccolo Lapi and Matteo Bonechi. The bell tower is by Gherardo Silvani (1660).
