Inscription.

The name long associated with the slight promontory above Indiana, related to both an old apple orchard once on the site and visually similar to a famous battle site of the Irish rebellion. Legendary film icon and military hero James Stewart (1908-1997) was raised in the red brick house at the top of the steps. Stewart and his father regularly used the stairs to reach the family hardware store. Stewart received an Oscar for his role in "The Philadelphia Story." He flew 20 combat missions during WWII; retired as brigadier general and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1985.

Erected by Jimmy Stewart Museum.
