Inscription. Henry Ford's Fort Myers estate was lushly landscaped. Original owner, Robert Smith noted that there were hundreds of fruit trees, including grapefruit, orange, tangerine, guava and of course, many mango trees, which gave the estate its name.

Background Photo: Mango trees and oleander surround the entrance to The Mangoes, circa 1916.

Above Right: This is one of several photos believed to have been sent by the original owner in an attempt to entice Ford to buy the property. The hand-written notes help highlight the natural beauty and tropical foliage.

Below Right: The vintage postcard image of The Mangoes shows large fruit trees growing near the entryway. Ford took great pride in the plants and trees that flourished on his property, especially in the variety of citrus that grew there.
