Stone Cider Mill

1. Stone Cider Mill Marker
Built in 1820 by Timothy Stone. Operated as a cider mill until it ceased operations in 1910.
The building is architecturally significant as a rare, if not unique, example of a purpose-built cider mill with it's equipment intact, including two cider presses and a horse-driven "nut mill" used to chop apples prior to pressing them, and as a well preserved example of timber framing used to achieve the large open space needed for cider making.
The building and surrounding land continue to be owned by members of the Stone family, as it has since they purchased it in 1715. The mill and surrounding land will be preserved under an historic easement granted to Preservation CT in 2014. No further development will take place.
