Inscription.

The present building was begun in 1364 and replaced the old church of the Visdomini family, demolished to make more space for the new Cathedral. The Celestine monks officiated here between 1552 and 1782, and completely altered the church. Inside, there are some remarkable 16th- and 17th-century paintings: Pontormo's "Sacra Conversazione" (dated 1518); Poppi's "Resurrection" (1570); the "Nativity" by Empoli (1618); the "Preaching of the Baptist" by Passignano; the "Birth of the Virgin" by Agostino Ciampelli. The inlaid 15th-century cupboards in the sacristy come from the demolished monastery of San Pier Maggiore. Restoration
