Inscription. The golden arches were removed from this sign in 1961 when Multi-Mixer salesman Ray Knoc purchased the rights to McDonald's Hamburgers from Dick and "Mac" McDonald for $ 2.7 million dollars. The sign was saved from complete demolition in 1972 when a lone neighbor stopped the wrecking crew from tearing it down. Unfortunately he could not prevent the destruction of the "Golden Arches" building.
