Inscription.

This former bank building was the first of a row of buildings that William H. Cushman built along this block of Alpine Street. In 1871, he bought out the majority interest of another bank and reorganized it as the First National Bank of Georgetown.

Cushman poured his heart and soul - and his cash - into promoting the young town. His bank financed many early mining and milling enterprises, many of which failed. When the bank failed in 1878, the Colorado Miner reported that "the pressure of the times caused a run on the institution and it was obliged to close its doors."

In 1969, the roof of the adjoining three-story building to the east collapsed due to heavy snow. The event destroyed much of this building, but fortunately, the original facade was spared.
