Inscription. In 1873, The Colorado Miner reported that Theo Simmons had constructed "a handsome brick building on Rose Street," one of Georgetown's first commercial brick structures, to house his business. In 1877, he sold to William Hamill, who soon acquired the two buildings to the north. The three buildings were joined in 1881 with a standard brick facade and sheet metal cornice to create the Hamill Block. The Simmons building was occupied over the years by Warner Dry Goods, W.M. Schauer Meat Market, Lake Groceries, and A.G. Klein Market, before becoming a cafe/restaurant in 1960. Elements of the facade were covered, and the interior ceiling lowered. Restoration of the facade and interior in 2020 preceded the opening of Grady's 511 Rose.
