1. Devils Kitchen Picnic Shelter 1941 Marker
Designed by the National Park Service (NPS) in 1940 and constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1941 (with the help of local craftsmen), the picnic shelter is an excellent example of NP Rustic Architecture. The sandstone was quarried by CCC from either the immediate vicinity or from the Rim Rock Drive construction project.
Extensive rehabilitation work was done on the shelter in 1961. The building was re-roofed with hand-split cedar shakes (as original). The lower half, rear elevation of the south wing, was veneered in concrete to prevent [illegible].
