1. Bunkhouse Site Marker
The bunkhouse provided sleeping quarters for the men who did seasonal track work, snow removal, and improvement to the railroad. Built in 1880, it was an adjunct to the section house. Some crews were served by bunk and kitchen cars on work trains brought in for special work. More or less standard (19'x30'), bunkhouses were located near most of the section houses.
Caption:
Young, single men found their first railroad jobs on D & RG section crews. They repaired tracks and road beds in the warmer months. In the winter, they manned rotary crews and shoveled snow.
