1. Hide House Marker
Hide House
This hide house was built around 1950 and replaced an earlier log smokehouse. Here, cowhides were stored before being sent away for tanning.
The hides were salted and stacked together tightly to allow the rock salt to completely penetrate the skins. The hides were then shipped by rail to the Raiford prison farm in northern Florida for tanning.
Casa de Cueros
Fuι construνda alrededor de 1950 y reemplazσ la casa vieja de ahumar carne. Aquν, se almacenaron los cueros de vaca, salados y apilados para permitir que la sal penetrara totalmente las pieles. Despuιs, se enviaban por tren a la prisiσn de Raiford en el norte de la Florida para curtirlos.
