On the eighth hour and forty sixth minute of the morning of September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 11, a passenger flight hijacked by terrorists, plowed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Sixteen minutes later, at 9:02 am, a second hijacked passenger jet, United Airlines Flight 175, crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center.

More than 400 firefighters, police officers and other rescue personnel were killed when the Twin Towers collapsed. In total, two thousand seven hundred and forty nine people died in the attack.

BMCC's Fiterman Hall, located at 30 West Broadway, sustained extensive damage as a result of the attack. Everyone in Fiterman Hall, as well as everyone in 199 Chambers Street, was safely evacuated.

Sadly, the BMCC community suffered loss of life. Eight members of the BMCC family who worked at the Trade Center or participated in the rescue effort died when the buildings collapsed. The fallen are:

Annette Dataram • Keithroy Maynard • Shevone Mentis • Jorge Moran • Curtis Noel • Angela Rosario • Khamaladai Singh • Hector Tirado
