Joseph Snyder Store
In 1869, Joseph W. Wright purchased the lot that would become the corner of Main Street and Maple Avenue and opened a dry goods store. He sold this store to A. A. Tygert who operated the store until early 1887, when blacksmith Joseph Snyder (1850 - 1933) exchanged his real estate for Mr. Tygert’s store and goods. Synder’s Store remained in operation until Mr. Snyder’s retirement in 1931. He sold the property to Stephen Venear, who rented the store to the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company. The A&P opened a month later and remained until the 1960’s. When A&P closed it ended a nearly 100 years of dry goods and grocery sales at this location. Since then the building has housed an art gallery, a caterer, a bagel and sandwich shop and a restaurant.
