Inscription.
A 15-foot high granite statue of the Muse of Music welcomes visitors to the Bowl.

The fountain was designed by George Stanley, the sculptor of the Oscar. The fountain was built in 1940 by the County of Los Angeles Engineer's Department in cooperation with the WPA and the Southern California Arts Project.

Regarding Muse of Music. The 200-foot long Streamline Moderne style fountain, The Muse Of Music Dance And Drama, was heralded as one of America’s most ambitious art projects in 1940.

Designer George Stanley also designed the Academy Award Oscar, the Sir Issac Newton statue at Griffith Observatory, and the Art Deco relief front entrance to Bullocks Wilshire.
