Inscription. Velvet ice cream was first made in the basement of Ritchey's Confectionery in 1914. Growing from a hand-cranked operation, Velvet products are sold throughout Ohio and surrounding states.

Ritchey's Confectionery opened in 1912 and was located on Main Street in Utica, Ohio.
