Cecil Carpenter
He left home to pursue more education at the age of ten. His father wanted him to quit school to help on the farm. He went to live with an aunt and uncle and finished high school and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1926. He earned his PhD from the University of Illinois in economics. He returned to UK to teach economics in 1935 and became Dean of the UK College of Commerce in 1948, which he held for sixteen years. He created the Kentucky Banking School and in 1952 created the UK MBA program. He was the financial adviser to UK President H..L Donovan as well as being the student loan officer. Much of the economic success Kentucky enjoys today can be directly traced to his vision, foresight, and decisions while at UK.

Cecil C. Carpenter is the former dean of the University of Kentuckys College of Commerce. He was appointed dean in 1948 and served the university for sixteen years. After receiving his bachelors degree from the University of Kentucky and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, he returned to UK and held a variety of different responsibilities throughout his career. He first joined the university as a professor of economics. Dr. Carpenter also served as student loan officer and as an unofficial financial advisor to university President H. L. Donovan.
