Jakob Kaiser war als christlicher Gewerkschaftsführer und Mitglied des Deutschen Reichstages im Widerstand gegen den Nationalsozialismus aktiv und 1938 mehrere Monate inhaftiert. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg war er Mitbegründer der CDU in der sowjetischen Besatzungszone und wirkte als Vertreter Berlins 1948/49 im Parlamentarischen Rat an der Gestaltung des Grundgesetzes für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland mit. In der Zeit von 1949 bis 1957 war er Mitglied des Deutschen Bundestages und Bundesminister für gesamtdeutsche Fragen.


A Christian trade unionist and member of the German Reichstag, Jakob Kaiser was active in the resistance to National Socialism and imprisoned for several months in 1938. After the Second World War, he was among the founders of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDUD) in the Soviet Zone of Occupation and contributed to the drafting of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany in 1948/49 as one of Berlin's representatives on the Parliamentary Council. He was a Member of the German Bundestag and Federal Minister for All-German Affairs from 1949 to 1957.
