From this house where Roman patriots Giorgio Laḅ and Gianfranco Mattei hid weapons for the resistance. The bomb disposal experts were taken by the Germans on February 1, 1944, to be interrogated and executed.

This plaque is placed in memory of the heroic silence that saved their comrades in the struggle, and of their sacrifice.

February 7. Laḅ spent several days in prison with his hands and feet bound, but never spoke to interrogators before he was executed at Forte Bravetta on March 7.

4. Giorgio Laḅ (1919-1944)
Laḅ was an architecture student who joined the anti-fascist resistance in Rome in 1943. Following his arrest in 1944, Laḅ was imprisoned in Rome for several days with his hands and feet bound. He was dragged to Forte Bravetta and was executed on March 7, 1944, without ever having given in to his interrogators.

5. Gianfranco Mattei (1916-1944)
Mattei was a chemistry professor who joined the anti-fascist movement during World War II as an explosives expert. Subjected to torture after his arrest on February 1, Mattei hanged himself on February 7 to avoid giving up information to interrogators.
