Archibald's Garage
Robert records in his journal: "We moved back to Mill Creek [into the home nearby which faced south] and commenced to repair up my old place. I worked hard and was then able to buy all of Archie's houses and land [including the former home across the street, which faced north]."
"I went to work again in good spirits to make home pieasant. I had plenty of house room and had my entire family under one roof." In this quote, he refers to life in the 2-story home he had bought from Archibald.
In 1929, Mr. Mulhall (the previous owner of Robert's home) recalls "a quite large 2-story adobe house on the corner of... Murphy's Lane and Highland Drive, which undoubtedly was the Archibald Gardner home."
When the demolition of the 2-story home took place in 1929, Mr. Mulhall hauled over several loads of the adobe brick for and built this 2-car garage.
Today, these historic adobe homes continue to stand together, side by side, in the same way that Robert and Archibald worked, side by side, building homes and mills and the newly-settled community here in Millcreek.
