1. Robert Foligny Broussard Marker
Robert was the first of two brothers to serve as U. S. Senator representing the State of Louisiana. He served in the House of Representatives from March 1897 until March 1912 and then was elected to serve in the U. S. Senate until his death in April 1918. He was affectionately known as "Couzan Bob."
In his early years, he attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C. (1879-1882). He graduated from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans in 1889 and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar Association. He launched his law practice in New Iberia. He was elected to the position of District Attorney for the Nineteenth Judicial District and served from 1892 until 1897.
While in Congress, he served as a Chairman of the Committee on Expenditures. In the Senate, he was Chairman of the Committee on National Banks. In the Senate, he co- sponsored Legislation creating the Inracostal Waterway System and sugar tariffs.
