1. Replica of the First Log Cabin Marker

Inscription. A replica of the first log cabin built in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. This 650 pound miniature replica was hand chiseled out of marble by Joseph Whitehead, a monument maker. A raffle was one of the events to raise funds for the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Monument that is located at the highest summit in the cemetery. The monument is of a private soldier looking toward the battlefields of the south in the Civil War. Funds were raised of $3,100.00 during 1890 tο 1902 by the Memorial Association that was needed for the monument. Mrs. J. S. (Mary Rutan) Moore headed the association and Mrs. Mabel Stoddard of 78 High Street, Mechanicsburg was the winner. The log cabin was placed in her front yard from 1900 tο 2020 when John and Ann (Gordon) Smith donated the log cabin to the cemetery after owning it for 48 years.
