1. Bertie Township Hall Marker
Inscription.
Built in 1874 for $2,495, this classically designed building featured limestone from a local quarry, French doors, slate roof, arched and circular windows, louvered cupola, and seven sets of ornamental modillions along the roof line.

The interior was originally one large galleried room where the municipal council met, court was held, and townspeople gathered for church services, school fairs, dances, medicine shows, theatre, opera, and Red Cross work. Rooms were built for a jail and offices for town staff, provincial police, and public health workers.

Bertie Township, Fort Erie, and Crystal Beach amalgamated in 1970. The Bertie Historical Society opened this museum in 1972. This building is now the Fort Erie Historical Museum, owned and operated by the Town of Fort Erie.

Erected 1992 by Town of Fort Erie.
